I grew up hearing “you will go out if this world the same way you came into it.” I don’t agree with this at all. I came into this world as a baby, I will go out as a father, son, grandson, entrepreneur, believer, adult and many other things. We leave this planet with the memories we have created, some good, some not so good. You hopefully have acquired a certain wisdom that you were not born with. We all do not leave this planet the way we came into it. Some of us will have wasted our allotted time on this planet being self-indulgent, concerned only about what feels good. It’s not Biblical but I believe we are hear on planet earth to become the people we want to be. I have always loved the fact that God knows every second of our future yet we do have free will. When we leave this planet we go one of two places; Heaven or Hell. You can choose to believe or not believe, it will not change the facts.
We are taught Jesus will then bring back to the dead their spirit, which was restored God, and the dead will become living souls again to enjoy forever in the presence of the Lord. So when we go to Heaven are the there as babies. No. We will be the people we have become. At some point, known only to God, Christ will return, and when this happens, our bodies will be resurrected and restored, and then they will be reunited with our souls, wherever they are. Since we were created as a body / soul unit, we will experience heaven or hell as a body / soul unit. [Sources: 2, 8]
If we go to heaven, we will join the angels there, but we will join them as the human beings we have become. If you, as a believer, believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead, then we will eventually rise from the dead. Although we can still bring the scars and memories of the good and evil of this life into eternity; it will be the holiness and justice of the Lord Jesus Christ that will guide eternal life. As we all know, we all die, but when Jesus Christ returns to the earth on the last day, the deceased followers of Jesus Christ will rise from their graves and receive eternal life.
